As a chef, Nathan Nichol's food journey has taken him around the world to top-tier Michelin starred kitchens, restaurant ventures in Melbourne and Malaysia, a season of My Restaurant Rules and a memorable stint as Elle Macpherson’s personal chef. He can name Gordon Ramsay, Marcus Wareing, Giorgio Locatelli, Peter Kuruvita, Martin Boetz and Paul Mathis among those he’s worked under. Now back on the Sunshine Coast, he’s brought his expertise and experience to a business venture that lets him give back to the food industry.
Food Profilers came about unexpectedly. Wanting a job with fewer night shifts and more family time, Nathan left professional cheffing and became co-owner of a cafe with his wife. When they expanded to a second cafe they found it difficult to control the quality of products, so they set up a production kitchen. Word spread, and they were approached to make products for other businesses. Their kitchen grew, as did their customer base which now includes national brands.
For Nathan and his team, this work is an exciting challenge, taking the restaurant philosophy of quality and consistency and applying it to scale. With this control, customers get the benefit of no wastage and a guaranteed price point. Manufacturing products in the Sunshine Coast allows Nathan to source ingredients from one of Australia’s best growing regions, using local farms and buying direct as much as possible to ensure freshness.
